The Converge Challenge is a company-creation competition and entrepreneurship development programme open to staff, students, and recent graduates of Scottish universities and research institutes.
This year’s competition attracted a record number of applicants with 223, taking the total in seven years to over 1110. Organisers were particularly gratified by an encouraging 2% rise on 2017 for female applicants while the creative industries accounted for a fifth of all entries.
Speaking as Chair of the Converge Challenge’s main funder – Scottish Funding Council – Dr Mike Cantlay OBE said, “We are delighted to see this year’s substantial growth in applications from staff and students. Developing entrepreneurship through national initiatives like the Converge Challenge is vitally important in driving Scotland’s future economic growth as a Can Do nation.”
It now falls to an expert panel, including co-founder and creative director of award winning design agency Graven Professor Janice Kirkpatrick CBE, to agree on the top 60 applicants.
